Meet Our New CRO, Rich Welch

We are excited to announce a new addition to our leadership team! Rick Welch is RevContent’s newly appointed Chief Revenue Officer who has joined us from the news-reading app, Flipboard. Rick may spend his days on video calls, meeting clients, and supercharging our sales team, but every great salesperson has to have a killer party trick, right? Read on to find out Rick’s superpower.

Let’s start with the basics, how did you get into “the industry”?
My college jobs and internships were across I.T. and media. Because I knew I didn’t have the artistic talent to be a Creative Director, AdTech seemed like the best and most logical combination.

What are some common misconceptions about our industry? How do you deal with them?
15 to 20 years ago, it was that I “made pop-ups” — more recently, people assume I manage Instagram profiles. Usually, the best way to approach it is, “Well, you like getting your content for free, right? The deals that we do support that.”

Where do you see the future of this industry being headed?
I see us finally realizing the intended benefits of programmatic and self-serve offerings in order to redistribute resources into creative & strategic activities (rather than simply being leveraged for arbitrage). Over the next 2 to 3 years, I believe we will see actual ‘practical applications’ of new advancements like AR, VR, blockchain, etc.

What was your favorite ad campaign from 2021?
Burger King has always done some edgy things — their previous CMO Fernando (recently moved to Activision/Blizzard) instilled an adventurous culture in their marketing/advertising efforts. This year, they successfully executed a large total rebranding plus a renovation of their locations. Beyond that, I’d say this article highlights some really new innovative moves in experiential, web3 (metaverse, NFTs) that’s been going on as of late.

What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?
Skydiving or car and boat racing.

Name one unique or unusual skill that you have, or what’s your party trick?
Hm… I wouldn’t say I have any particular ‘party trick’ (the champagne bottle with a blade, ‘sabrage’, didn’t work out), but I’ve always been competitive when it comes to all sorts of trivia and most drinking games (I win a lot :)).

Show us the last photo on your phone (no cheating!).
Our family’s corgi.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?Someone who has been successful in multiple aspects of life, yet remains somewhat relatable (ex: not Zuckerberg, Bezos, Musk, etc.) — perhaps Ashton Kutcher? I respect that he used money made from comedies to invest into successful technology ventures, and then gone a step further & used his influence for some good causes (ex: THORN).
